Frequently Asked Questions
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are hair-thin. At Lake View Acupuncture, a very gentle needling technique
is practiced so that discomfort is minimal when the needle is inserted. Once the needle is
in place, a dull, heavy or slightly achy sensation may be temporarily experienced indicating
that the acupuncture is working to activate the body's natural healing ability.
Is acupuncture safe?
When practiced by a qualified and licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is very safe.
Only sterile, single use disposable needles are used, eliminating almost any chance of infection.
How should I prepare for a treatment?
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes. Make sure you have had something to eat
within a couple of hours of your treatment. Do not use alcohol and minimize your caffeine
intake prior to your treatment. Plan to limit activity and keep well-hydrated after your
treatment. Plan to spend about an hour and a half at your first treatment and about an hour
at subsequent treatments. If possible, please arrive a few minutes early to complete the intial intake forms.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed varies with the individual and the condition being treated.
An acute problem may resolve quickly with only a few treatments whereas a chronic condition
may take several weeks of treatment.
How much does a treatment cost and does insurance
cover acupuncture?
We do not presently accept insurance, but can provide you with a receipt that you can
submit to your insurance company if acupuncture is included in your benefits. In keeping
with our mission to make acupuncture accessible to as many people as possible, we try to
keep our fees reasonable and try to help you get maximum benefit for your money. For example,
many conditions respond best to several treatments a week initially, but few people can afford
that based on a per treatment fee. In such cases, we will provide multiple treatments at a greatly
reduced weekly fee. In addition to making treatments affordable, this approach offers faster
and more sustained relief. Treatments for senior citizens, students, and people with disabilities
will also be provided at discounted rates.
